Why your business needs PAT Testing?

PAT Testing or Portable application testing, is a legal requirement under Irish law. Every business in the Republic of Ireland is required to carry-out a PAT test on all portable applications.
This test is designed to ensure the safety of both employees and customers.
As part of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2007 S.I. 299 the responsibility for having a PAT test completed falls squarely at the feet of the business owner. The documentation that proves that a business is compliant with regulation must be available for 5 years after the test is completed. This information must be made available to the HSA – who carry-out random spot checks – and to the employees who will be using portable electric application.
Alliance Ireland Electrical provides clients all over Dublin and nationwide with professional PAT testing. Today we’d like to discuss why your business needs a PAT test.

It is a regulatory necessity

We’ve already touched on the above but PAT testing is a legal requirement.
A Safe Electric Ireland registered electrician must carry-out the test to ensure that all portable electrical appliances in a property, are safe and operating efficiently.
The HSE carry-out spot checks all over the country. Businesses that are found to be in breach of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2007 S.I. 299 are likely to incur large fines.

Long-Term Maintenance Saving

More than just a regulatory necessity, PAT testing can identify issues with portable electrical appliances while they are minor. As such, repairs can be implemented when the issue is relatively inexpensive to repair.

A Safe Working Environment

PAT Testing identifies appliances that may be dangerous to use before an injury is caused. Frayed electrical wires, worn parts or general wear and tear can make an appliance a direct threat to the health and safety of employees and customers.

More so than simply being a regulatory necessity, PAT testing can ensure a business runs safely and efficiently. A PAT test can only ever be complemented by a Safe Electric registered electrician.
